Keith Whitaker has over 20 years of construction and professional engineering experience and eight years of academic experience with a focus in Construction Engineering and Management. Mr. Whitaker holds both civil and structural engineering licenses in several states and comes to WVU Tech from positions at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, College of Engineering and Mines.
Prior to beginning his academic career, Mr. Whitaker served for nearly 20 years as president of a full-service A/E firm located in the state of Maine specializing in construction engineering and partnering in design build construction projects. He was raised in a family-owned New England commercial construction firm, obtained his BSCE from the University of Rhode Island and earned his JD from the University of Maine School Of Law.
Dr. Torbica’s international experience of over 25 years includes both academic positions at several leading U.S. universities and an extensive and industry-recognized background in real estate development, leadership, strategic planning and construction operations. During the course of his career, Dr. Torbica has received a number of distinguished awards; served as a Keynote Speaker at the premier international construction conference; published numerous peer reviewed articles in the most selective professional journals, such as the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management; directed real estate development operations with projects ranging from $50 million to $550 million; served on the prestigious Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners; and completed leadership programs at Columbia University and Harvard University.
Dr. Torbica is a Certified General Contractor in the state of Florida, and holds Project Management Professional (PMP) and Quality Engineer (QE) certifications. He received a Ph.D. in Construction Management at the University of Florida in 1997.
