Message from the Chair

Headshot of Dr. Hahn

Welcome to the Civil Engineering Department at West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Our department offers a practice-oriented engineering program that enables students to directly enter into the workforce or further their professional development through graduate studies or extended education.

Most of our civil engineering faculty are registered professional engineers who have strong academic backgrounds and a wealth of experience to pass on to our students. Our comprehensive program is accredited in civil engineering by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET,  http://www.abet.org.

I encourage you to find out more about the civil engineering program at WVU Tech or contact us should you have any questions.

Guillermo Hahn, Ph.D.

Interim Chair and Professor, Civil Engineering and Construction Management

Our Mission

The Civil Engineering program’s mission is to:

  1. Prepare students to apply science and mathematics to the analysis of civil engineering problems and the design of infrastructure systems to increase human welfare and promote sustainable development.
  2. Prepare well-rounded students to practice engineering in a professional environment and to be successful in graduate school should they choose to attend.
  3. Help students recognize the role of the civil engineer in contemporary society, especially with respect to the societal and environmental contexts of civil engineering projects.
  4. Energize students to maximize individual potential, including acquisition of necessary skills and recognition of the need for continuing education and lifelong growth and development.
